Questions & Responses for Crystal View Entry Sign
What is the size of the existing sign?
Existing Entry sign including posts Size:
13.5ft Long x 64”tall (tallest post) – post to post
Existing Marina Sign Size:
58 1/8” long x 30 ¼” tall x 2 ¼” thick
Why do we need a new entry and marina sign?
Our current signs are over 25 years old and in state of decay and have sustained damages.
How was the new font selected? Why not use the old font?
The current font and design is outdated. The entry committee has looked at many comparisons of signs, font and design options. The committee asked some professional sign designers and graphic artists for opinions on what kind of font and design to use. The new font was chosen because of its classic, simple, timeless design.
What is the advantage of a manufactured rock vs real rock?
A manufactured rock can be made to the size and shape you desire. A manufactured rock can have a larger flat face for your lettering. Real rock has the realistic look but much smaller and heavier.
What is the differences between back lit and front lit lighting of the lettering?
Back lit lighting is lighting behind each of the letters which allows for less shadow. The back lighting creates a glow behind each letter without shadows on the letters. Back Lit lighting needs to fit behind the letters, so consequently the letters need to be bigger. Back lit lighting needs direct electricity.
Front lit lighting tends toward more shadows on the lettering however, it is usually easier to install and can be either direct electricity or solar lights.
How long has the board or committee been working on the process of a new sign and landscaping?
The board and landscape committee started looking into the process in March 2019. In 2020 an Entry committee was formed from members who volunteered at the 2020 annual meeting and soon after. The committee has been collaborating on designs, ideas, options and pricing.
Entry Committee Members are: Rod Anderson, Carolyn Anderson, Patti Riel and Lisa Colvin
What are the advantages of a sign made of rock vs wood?
Using a large rock follows the theme of the majority of the landscaping in the Crystal View Community. A Rock is fire resistant and long lasting to withstand rot and decay. Rock is also a timeless design and looks beautiful with the landscaping.
What is the timeline for new sign?
After the decision is made by the community and the board, our goal is to execute by fall 2021. This will depend on the timing of all the contractors and permits involved.
How is purchasing a new sign going to impact my home owner dues?
There will be no special assessment. The cost of the sign and landscaping will be part of the existing budget.
Questions for Landscaping Entry Area
The plan is to update the landscaping in the entry common areas as part of our Entry way improvement. The new landscaping will have an emphasis on fire resistant and low maintenance.
When will the landscaping be updated?
The goal is to make the entry area fire resistant and low maintenance in different phases. We are hoping to have at least phase I (phase I is the area around the marina parking lot) implemented by Fall 2022; depending on board approval of budget. Phase II is the area across from the Marina Parking lot and Phase III is the islands in the middle of crystal drive.
How many proposals did you look at? Are they local?
We asked four different local landscapers to give bids. Three have responded and given us bids.
